الملخص

This study explores the teaching of Arabic for Specific Purposes (ASP) within Islamic studies programs at higher education institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia. It focuses on the significance of ASP, the challenges faced in its implementation, and its impact on students’ academic achievement and graduate employability. The study employs a systematic literature review and an analysis of sources related to ASP practices both locally and globally. The findings reveal that ASP plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ understanding of primary Islamic texts, strengthening their research skills, and preparing graduates to meet the demands of the global labor market. However, several challenges were identified, including variations in students’ proficiency levels, institutional limitations, and the insufficient integration of technology in teaching. The study concludes that developing a responsive ASP curriculum, providing continuous professional development for instructors, and ensuring adequate learning infrastructure are essential for the effective implementation of ASP. This article contributes to the existing body of knowledge by offering strategic recommendations to reinforce ASP as a vital component of Islamic studies education in Malaysia.
