This study examines differences in the methods of waqf (pausing) on words containing the letter hamzah between Imam Hamzah's recitation and the riwayat of Hafs ‘An ‘Asim, with a focus on Surah al-Baqarah. This study employs a qualitative approach. The findings reveal that there are 99 instances of waqf involving hamzah in Surah al-Baqarah, with eight methods of waqf identified in the recitation of Imam Hamzah compared to three methods in the riwayat of Hafs ‘An ‘Asim. The results also show significant differences between the two qiraat. Imam Hamzah applies a wider variation of recitation methods by utilizing ibdal, naql, tashil, hazaf, idgham, saktah, raum, and tahqiq. In contrast, the riwayat of Hafs ‘An ‘Asim generally maintains the recitation in the form of tahqiq, with allowance for Ishmam and Raum in certain situations. It is hoped that this study will provide greater exposure to the community regarding the uniqueness and richness of the waqf discipline within the science of qiraat, while also ensuring the accuracy of recitation in accordance with authentic narrations.
